For the last two months we have been pounding Japanese with ship and air raids. The B29 bombers pounded her major cities during the day. We went in close to the shore and hit them at night. They tried every trick in the book to mess us up. They would take a balloon and tie it to a floating buoy. Below the balloon, attached to the string, was a peice of tin foil. When our fire control radar bounced off of the decoy it would show up looking like a ship. One night I picked up a target that looked like a large airplane. After plotting the speed I realized it was a balloon. They had launched these things with bombs on them to hit the west coast of the United States. In fact one did set fire in the mountains of Oregon.
